Friction ppt

Friction Detectives!

We know that friction is a hidden force that slows things down when two surfaces touch.

Our mission is to find out: Which surface creates the MOST friction, and which creates the LEAST?

We will use four surfaces: wood, wool, bubble wrap, and sandpaper. And we have our race car!

The Experiment Setup

  1. The Ramp: We'll set up our ramp at a fixed height. This gives our car the same starting speed every time. (Crucial Rule: Don't move the ramp!)
  2. The Starting Line: We will place one of our surfaces (like the sandpaper) at the bottom of the ramp.
  3. The Fair Launch: We must drop the car from the exact same spot at the top of the ramp for every test.
  4. Measure the Distance: The car will roll down and slow down on the surface because of friction. When it stops, we will use our tape measure to see how far it travelled.
