Create an effective sentence about Ahmet using a
simile starter.
Remember to use the success criteria!

The writer uses language features to make an impact (have an effect) on the reader.
For example:
- first person
Why did the writer chose to write the story from the narrator's point of view?
How does using 'I', 'My' affect how we understand the story?

What is dialogue?
Why do writers use it?
Look at this example of dialogue from the book:
'Gimme that!' he said, and he snatched the pomegranate from Ahmet's hands.
'Give that BACK!' I shouted, feeling scared and angry all at once.
'Make me!' sneered Brendan the Bully as he turned around the face me.
1. Highlight the dialogue.
2. Why does the writer put 'Gimme...' - what does that mean?
3. Why is BACK written in capital letters? What does it show?
4. How does the narrator say 'Give that BACK!' - what kind of voice does she use? How do you know?
Answer the questions in your book.
