LC: To know what Christians might describe as temptations in the modern world and why and how they might avoid these aspects of life.

Christians would describe temptation as the desire to do somethingprobably appealing– which they know they shouldn’t.

Christians believe that to give in to such temptations is to sin.

Most Christians look to the commandments they believe God gave Moses as His intent for human behaviour.

One evening, Sam was struggling with his homework. His friend had already finished and offered to let him copy the answers. Sam felt a strong pull to say yes—it would be quick and no one would know. This is what Christians call temptation: wanting to do something that seems easy or rewarding, but goes against what they believe is right.

Sam remembered that Christians believe God wants people to live honestly and not take shortcuts, even when it’s hard. He thought about the Ten Commandments, which teach “Do not steal” and “Do not lie,” and he realised that copying would be both.

Instead of giving in, Sam stopped and prayed, asking God for strength to do the right thing. He then worked through the questions himself, even though it took longer. Christians believe that resisting temptation, like Sam did, helps them stay true to their faith, follow Jesus’ example, and build good habits that honour God.

Examples of temptations for children might be:

  • Being greedy and wanting lots of money or toys.

  • Cheating in school or lying to parents.

  • Being mean to others or bullying.

  • Spending too much time on phones or games instead of thinking about God or family.

Task:

What temptations do you think Christians face in the world today?

How might they avoid these?
