Your turn:  Read the text below and then use character description to illustrate (draw) a picture of the character. Add labels to make links between text and imagination.

Creature

The unusual smell grabbed Billy’s attention, like burnt rubber and milk left out overnight. He heard a strange noise ahead. Sharp beeps. From behind the boulder, an egg-shaped head appeared. As the creature clambered over the rock, Billy noticed that it had tiny suckers on the ends of its long fingers and its skin was as silver as the moon. He looked down at the three-toed feet, leading up to branch-like legs. The tunic that covered its body was made of red, faded silk. But it was the creature’s face that took Billy’s breath away. In the centre sat a single purple eye. It was looking straight at Billy.

Creature

Billy wrinkled his nose and then covered it. Something smelt like sour milk. He saw a head shaped like an egg pop out from behind a large rock. A tiny creature had climbed up it with the help of suckers on the ends of its fingers. There were three toes on its feet and it had legs as thin as sticks. A red dress hung from its silver body. The single purple eye in the middle of its head was shocking at first but Billy knew this creature wouldn’t hurt him. They both raised their hands at the same time and waved hello.
