Sounds and Silence in Worship

In worship, both sounds and silence can be powerful. Silence allows for a moment of stillness where you  can focus on God's voice or create a sacred space for reflection and connection. It is often used during prayer or during reflection.
Sounds in worship can be both distracting and enriching, for example,  music and prayer. Incorporating silence into worship practices can deepen the experience of the words, music, and actions of worship. It teaches us that prayer is not only a conversation involving words but also a stance of openness and listening for the voice of God.

This week we will be listening to different sounds in different forms of worship. We will also enjoy silence in moments of reflection.

Whole class: Close you eyes for a minute. What can you hear?

Now let's share all the different sounds we heard.

When do you need silence?

How does silence make you feel?
