LC: To use dictionaries to check meanings of words in the texts we read.

Teacher model:

A dictionary can be used to look up the meaning of a word.
You can also use a dictionary to check the spelling of a word.
Dictionaries may also give other information about words, such as word type and word origin.

Your turn: Read the extract below and high light words you do not know the meaning of and then find the meaning of the word using a dictionary.

Grammar warmup:
