Through stories, maps, and creative activities, the class will explore what makes someone brave and determined.

2F Autumn 2 History
As Artists, we will be learning about the artist Nancy McCroskey and her amazing tile-inspired designs. The children will explore patterns, shapes, and colours to create their own artwork inspired by her style. They will experiment with drawing and arranging their designs to make beautiful repeating patterns.

2F Autumn 2 Art - Drawing
In RE, we will be learning about how Christians use light in worship and celebrations. The children will make beautiful Christingles and reflect on the meaning of each part.
2F -Autumn 2 RE
During PSHCE, we will discuss the importance of trusted adults and knowing who to talk to if they ever feel worried. The children will identify safe people at home and school who they can turn to for help and support.

2F Autumn 2 - PSHCE
Spring 1
This half term, the children will be learning to read and write non-chronological reports. They will explore how these texts are organised using titles, headings and labelled pictures. The children will practise writing in clear sentences using Year Two grammar and punctuation, including capital letters, full stops, question marks and commas in lists. They will also learn to use expanded noun phrases and factual vocabulary to give their readers more information.

As Mathematicians, the children will be learning about mass, fractions and shape. The children will compare and measure mass, recognise and find fractions of shapes and numbers, and explore the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. They will develop their reasoning skills through practical activities and problem solving.

2F Spring Maths
As Scientists, the children will be learning about living things and their habitats. They will identify that most plants and animals live in habitats that suit their needs and explore how different habitats provide food, water and shelter. The children will learn how living things depend on each other and describe how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals. The children will also create simple food chains and identify different sources of food, developing their understanding of how living things are connected.

As Historians, the children will be learning about the past and present. We will explore the difference between life in the past and life today and develop their understanding of key features of historical events through learning about Tim Peake. The children will ask questions to make comparisons between their own lives and those of people in the past, helping them to understand how life has changed over time.

As Engineers, the children will be learning about engineering. The children will design and make vehicles using construction kits, ensuring they have free-running wheels. They will explore the engineering process by planning, making and evaluating their own vehicles, developing their problem-solving and practical skills.

This term, Year 2 will be learning about values, beliefs and relationships. The children will reflect on why people are special to them, explore the meaning of fire, and retell the Ten Commandments, thinking about how they influence people’s lives. They will learn about the significance of the Holy Sabbath for believers and discuss why spending quality time with others is important. The children will also consider how we respond to things that really matter.

This term, Year 2 will be learning about needs and wants. The children will explore the difference between things we need and things we want, and understand that sometimes people may not always be able to have everything they want. Through discussion and activities, they will develop empathy and decision-making skills.

Spring 2
This term, Year 2 will continue reading the story The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark as part of our English learning. The children will explore the adventures of Plop the little owl and use the story to develop their reading, writing and comprehension skills.
They will practise retelling the story, sequencing events and discussing characters’ feelings and actions. The children will also explore descriptive language and vocabulary, using it to write their own sentences, captions and short stories inspired by Plop’s experiences.

As mathematicians, Year 2 will be developing their understanding of shapes and fractions through practical and engaging activities. The children will explore the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, learning to identify and describe them using mathematical vocabulary such as sides, vertices, edges and faces. They will sort shapes in different ways and recognise shapes in everyday objects around them.
In our fractions learning, pupils will find and recognise ½, ¼ and ⅓ of shapes and quantities. They will explore how shapes and amounts can be divided into equal parts and understand why equal parts are important when working with fractions.

As scientists, Year 2 will be learning about everyday materials and their uses. The children will explore a range of common materials including wood, metal, plastic, glass and brick, and identify what different objects are made from.
As part of our learning, we will investigate why certain materials are chosen for particular purposes. For example, we will think about why a window is made from glass or why a spoon is often made from metal. The children will also explore how the shape of some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.
Through practical investigations and discussions, pupils will develop their scientific vocabulary and begin to understand how materials are suitable for different uses.
As artists, Year 2 will be learning about collage and exploring how artists use different materials to create exciting artwork. We will study the work of Tony Cragg and discuss how he transforms everyday and recycled objects into interesting shapes and sculptures.
The children will experiment with cutting, tearing and layering paper and recycled materials to create their own collages. They will think carefully about shape, colour and texture, and practise arranging materials in different ways before making final artistic choices.

As geographers, we will be learning about maps and developing their geographical skills. The children will explore different types of maps, including world maps, atlases and simple street maps, and learn how they help us understand the world around us.
We will practise using directional language such as north, south, east and west, as well as simple compass directions and positional language to describe locations. The children will also create their own simple maps, using symbols and keys to represent features such as buildings, roads and parks.
This term, Year 2 will be learning about Islam and exploring what is important to Muslim people. The children will find out about the beliefs and practices of Islam.
We will learn about the importance of prayer, the mosque as a place of worship, and some of the ways Muslims show commitment to their faith in daily life. The children will also explore celebrations such as Eid and discuss how festivals bring communities together.

Year 2 will be learning about staying safe and understanding how to keep themselves safe in different situations. The children will explore how to recognise safe and unsafe situations, both at home and in school, and learn about the importance of making sensible choices.
We will discuss who our trusted adults are and practise how to ask for help if we feel worried or unsure. Through discussions, role-play and scenario-based activities, pupils will develop confidence, resilience and an understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe.
