 LC: to identify the conventions of persuasive writing 

 

 

Who do you think is responsible for the murder of King Duncan? 

Who is to blame for his death?

Tell your talk partner your opinion and give reasons for your view.

 

For your final English task this year, you are going to write a speech to be given to a jury in the trial  for the murder of King Duncan. You must persuade the judge and jury that your client is innocent of this crime and explain who is guilty.

What does it mean to persuade someone?

Tell your partner about a time when you tried to persuade someone.

 

Let's look at what makes good persuasive writing. 

Read the speech below from a Year 5 pupil who wants to persuade their classmates to elect them to the new School Council. 

- What does the pupil do well?

- What improvements would you make?

 

Now, improve this speech by making it more appropriate and formal.

b) the pirate ship

c) the parrot sanctuary

d) the volcano
