LC: To explain the meaning of ecumenical and describe the role of places like Taize where Christians from different backgrounds might come together to worship.

Psalm 133:1 'How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!'

Colossians 3:14 -15 'And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts , since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.'

John 14:6 Jesus answered , 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'

1 Thessalonians 5:9 'For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.'

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.'

Taizé

The Taizé community is an ecumenical monastic order with a strong devotion to peace and justice through prayer and meditation.

It was founded in 1940 by Roger Louis Schutz-Marsauche (known as 'Brother Roger') to offer shelter to oppressed people during the second world war.

Today Taizé is one of the world's most important sites of Christian pilgrimage. Each year tens of thousands of young pilgrims flock to the small village of Taizé in central France to share in the community's way of life.

Prayer and silence are at the heart of the Taizé experience. Young people from every corner of the globe are encouraged to live out the Christian gospel in a spirit of joy, simplicity and reconciliation.

Ecumenism  is the key to Taizé's appeal, making it a magnet for people of many different cultures and traditions.

Taizé brings together people from all denominations and cultures. It is a sign of hope in a divided world and its spirituality has brought new life to Christian churches throughout the world.

What is Taizé?

Why do you think many Christian people visit?

What will they do whilst staying there?
