Friday 16th May

LC: to think in role as the father/son and to imagine effective warning to use in narrative writing

Let's look at the father and child relationship in the poem.

A - the father/mother

What do you want to tell your child about the creature?

Why should the child go to fight the creature?

Why should the child not go?

What effect has the creature had on your village?

What do you want to happen now?

B - the son/daughter

Why do you want to go on this mission?

What reasons will you give your parent?

How has the creature affected your childhood and growing up?

What do you want to tell your parent now?

You are going to role-play this conversation with each other.

Practise your role play with your partner.

We will then listen to other pairs and make notes about

the advice given to the child

by the parent.

Let's add these ideas to the second verse of our plan.

LC: to use our research and learning to compare and contrast the civilisations and achievements of the Ancient Greeks and the Mayans

We are going to finish our study of History this year by remembering our learning about

two great ancient civilisations.

Look back in your History books to remind yourself of the achievements of

- the ancient Greeks

- the Mayans

Complete the table with NOTES (use short bullet points like the model below).

LC: Spell correctly words with the suffixes ible, and able.

The suffixes ‘-able’ and ‘-ible’ can be tricky because they often sound the same.

Whilst there aren’t hard and fast rules, we are going to investigate to see if there are any conventions to help us to remember the spellings.

Let's look together  at an ‘-able’ word and an ‘-ible’ word. We'll mark the suffix to help us look at the root word.

                                       terrible                  enjoyable

With your partner investigate the words on this list. Can find any patterns?

adorable                   forgivable              incredible

           possible         disposable       sensible

edible                         reliable               reversible

              valuable        respectable     invincible

breakable                 agreeable                  legible

       identifiable         enviable        horrible

Did we establish any general rules for knowing when to add 'ible' and when to add 'able'?

able or ible?
