LC: To work within a budget.

Do you understand and can your explain the term budget?

Your budget will be the amount of money you have to spend on producing your  product. You will have a budget of £1 per group member to buy the additional ingredients needed to make the product you have designed.

For your breakfast tarts you will be able to use the butter that we will make in the next session so you  do not need to include that in your calculations but any other ingredients will need to be bought using your budget, including those for the basic tartlet recipe e.g. flour.

If you  find that you cannot afford your original ideas, you will need to adapt your recipe and think of ways to solve this real life problem.

Teacher model: how to use the supermarket website to search for your ingredients and order them so they can view the product options in order of price.

Remember to think carefully about which written calculation methods will be the most efficient to use in the context of this problem.

Group task: Research where each of  your chosen ingredients comes from.

Using ‘Google tour builder’, create a tour that starts with a shopping basket and shows from where in the world each of their chosen ingredient is sourced and have far it has travelled.

What does this tell us about food miles?
