Collect and classify 

 

(Collect inverted commas and other punctuation from a text. Check that they are all enclosing the words actually spoken. Look at the words outside inverted commas – collect and classify their function.)

 Her husband was worried about her and asked, "What is wrong my dear?"

"Ah," she replied, "if I can't eat some of the rapunzel from the garden behind our house I think I shall die."

The man, who loved her, thought, "Sooner than let my lovely wife die, I will bring her some of the rapunzel myself, no matter what the cost."

 

The enchantress nodded, her scowl turning to a sly smile.

“You are forgiven. Take as much of the rampion as you can carry.”

The woodcutter’s eyes almost popped out of his head. “As much as I can carry?” he gasped.

“Yes,” snapped the enchantress. “But on one condition. You must give me the child that your wife will bring into the world. It will be well treated and I will care for it like a mother.”
