Tuesday
There are lots of things that in Year 1 that are the same in Reception:
we still wear the same uniform
we still learn Maths
we still learn to sing songs
There are lots of new and exciting things to learn in Year 1:
we sit at tables and have our own trays!
we learn to think like historians and scientists!
we have different coloured walls and books!
We hang our coats up in the cloakroom, using the bottom pegs first.
We ask to go to the toilet. There is a toilet for the boys and a toilet for the girls.
We use our outside area for learning!
We have a quiet yard for talking to our friends, reading or construction.
We must use walking feet on this yard!
We can use the gym or exercise zone to keep fit with our friends.
We must use two hands at all times on the equipment!
It is better to use anther area if someone is using the equipment rather than queueing up. There is time for us all to have a turn.
We can use the running yard to play with our friends.
When we come inside, we use this door and thank the person holding it using our inside voices.
What are you looking forward to in Year 1?
Getting to know you!
Getting to know you
We are going to play a game. You need to think of two things:
- something about yourself that is true and real
- something about yourself that is false and not real
You have to talk to the person next to you or someone else in your class; they have to try and guess the one that is true.
Example:
I have an alien living at my house.
I love being a teacher!
Now we are going to watch the story - The crayon box that talked!
Now we have read the story, think about this question...
We are going to make a crayon to go inside a box, like in the story.
Can you think of something you are good at?
What job what you like to do when you grow up?
We are going to write a sentence onto our crayon.
You are going to write what you are good at and what you want to be when you grow up.
Example I am good at running. I want to be a footballer.
When you have finished, you can draw a picture of yourself at the top of the crayon.
Introduce and discuss key vocabulary, linking meanings of new words to those already known.
Orally plan and rehearse ideas.
The controller of Train Company on Sodor has left us a message.
Dear Year 1,
I need a new train!
Come and tell me all about yourself and persuade me you are the one I’m looking for!
We are going to imagine that we are trains. You need to be able to describe yourself and persuade the controller to pick you!
Select and generate your favourite words so we can use them in our writing for the controller.
When we are selecting details about our trains we need to think about:-
- Colour
- Size
- Type of train
- How it moves
Watch the videos below to see if you can magpie any more ideas.
Complete the Role on the Wall about your train.
Now that you have collected your ideas practise saying the characteristic using pronoun I.
My name is…
I am clean and shiny.
I charge along like troops in a battle.
I am helpful and popular.
I go…
I always…
Today we will be looking at place value.
