The crowd roared as Amina sprinted down the pitch, her eyes fixed on the goal. Her heart pounded, not just from the run, but from the weight of the moment. This was the last match of the season, and her team needed just one goal to win the league. As she weaved past the defenders, the ball stayed close to her feet, almost like it was part of her. She took a deep breath, swung her foot, and struck the ball. It soared through the air. For a second, everything went silent. Then—the net rippled. The stadium erupted. Amina smiled, knowing all the early mornings and muddy boots had been worth it.
R - What does Amina need to do for her team to win the league?
I - How do you think Amina felt before she kicked the ball? Use evidence from the text.
C - Why do you think the author wrote, “everything went silent”?

Rainforest Biomes
What is a Rainforest Biome?
A rainforest biome is a dense, warm, and wet forest that receives a large amount of rainfall throughout the year. These forests are known for their incredible biodiversity, containing a huge variety of plants, animals, and insects. The climate in rainforests is usually hot and humid, with very little variation in temperature throughout the year.
Where are Rainforest Biomes Found?
Rainforest biomes are typically located near the equator, between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. The largest rainforests are found in the Amazon Basin in South America, the Congo Basin in Africa, and parts of Southeast Asia. These regions have ideal conditions of heat and moisture that support the growth of thick, lush forests.
Layers of the Rainforest
Rainforests have several distinct layers that support different types of plants and animals:
- Emergent Layer: The tallest trees that rise above all others, reaching heights of up to 60 meters.
- Canopy Layer: A thick layer of closely spaced trees that form a roof over the forest.
- Understory Layer: Smaller trees and shrubs that grow in the shade of the canopy.
- Forest Floor: The bottom layer, which receives very little sunlight and is covered with decomposing leaves and plants.
Adaptations of Plants in Rainforests
Plants in the rainforest have adapted to survive in a competitive environment with limited sunlight reaching the forest floor. Many trees have large, broad leaves to capture as much sunlight as possible. Some plants have waxy surfaces to help repel excess water from the frequent rains. Vines and lianas grow upwards by climbing taller trees to reach sunlight.
Animal Life in Rainforest Biomes
Rainforests are home to a wide variety of animals, including monkeys, birds, frogs, snakes, and insects. Many animals have adapted to life in the trees with strong limbs for climbing and sharp eyesight for spotting food. Some animals use camouflage to hide from predators, while others have bright colors to warn predators they are poisonous.
Importance of Rainforest Biomes
Rainforests play a vital role in maintaining the Earth’s climate by absorbing large amounts of carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. They are also a source of many medicinal plants and provide habitats for millions of species. Protecting rainforests is crucial for preserving biodiversity and combating climate change.

The Rainforest
Rainforests are warm, wet places. Many trees grow close together. The leaves are big and green.
Lots of animals live in the rainforest. Monkeys swing in the trees. Bright birds fly from branch to branch. Frogs hop on the forest floor.
Rainforests get a lot of rain. The rain helps the plants grow. Rainforests are very important because they give us clean air.
