Every day after school, Jamie would stare at the old tower on the hill. No one had lived there for years, but its crooked windows and leaning walls made it look like it was watching him.
People in the village said it was haunted. Jamie wasn’t sure he believed them, but he always walked a little faster when he passed it.
One cloudy afternoon, curiosity got the better of him. Jamie climbed the hill, boots crunching on the gravel path. As he reached the gate, the wind picked up and the tower door slowly creaked open — even though he hadn’t touched it.
R - What does Jamie stare at after school?
I - How do we know Jamie feels nervous about the tower?
C - Why does the author describe the windows as “crooked” and the walls as “leaning”?

LC: To make predictions using evidence from the text.
Tariq unfolded the old letter once more. The paper was yellow and fragile, but the ink was still clear:
"Follow the stream past the crooked tree. Beneath the stone marked with an X lies the truth you seek."
Tariq glanced at the map beside him. Something didn’t add up — the X had been scratched out, and a strange symbol had been drawn in its place. He turned the map over and spotted a smudge of red ink in the corner. Was it a warning?
He grabbed his backpack and flashlight. If he was going to solve this mystery, he had to leave now—before anyone else got there first.
