Grammar Warm Up

LC: to identify how writers blend action and description

We are going to look at writing about action and writing to describe.

How can we blend (mix) them together to create an effective description?

Look at the sentences below.

In one colour, underline the ACTION (the verbs will help you) and in another colour underline the DESCRIPTION (the adjectives will help you).

Mrs Smith picked up her pink sparkly pen and thought about what to write next.

LC: to explore characters orally and select precise vocabulary to create well-structured descriptions using expanded noun phrases

We have been asked to write a narrative to match the poem to be included in a book of adventure stories for Year 5 children to read.

We are gong to create a new creature for our narrative.

We are going to

- think of a name for the creature

- label the parts of the creature

- add adjectives to create noun phrases

- select verbs and describe how the creature is moving

This is the creature your teacher will write about.

Watch her model how to expand a description of this new creature.

Choose your  own creature and do the same.

1. Start by giving your character a name - consider a portmanteau word

e.g. eaglion, liogle

2. Then add nouns as starter words.

3. Next, add adjectives and make it into an expanded noun phrase.

4. Let's add some verbs.

5. Finally add your creature to the plot structure table.

Use the vocab to help you.

LC: To be able to reflect a shape more than once.

LC: To describe what Christians mean when they talk about one God in Trinity.

Trinity is a group of three people or things or the state of being three.

Many Christians believe in the Holy Trinity that God is three persons in one- Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

God is described as God the Father because Christians believe that God is the creator of everything and Lord over all the universe.

Scripture example from the bible

 Isaiah 64:8

Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

God the Son refers to how Christians believe that God chose to come to earth as a human being in the form of Jesus,

the Son of Mary.

Scripture example from the bible

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 10:28-30

I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.

God the Holy Spirit refers to the power of God in the daily life of a Christian.

 Scripture example from the bible

Ephesians 4:29-32

Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you. And do not make God's Holy Spirit sad; for the Spirit is God's mark of ownership on you, a guarantee that the Day will come when God will set you free. Get rid of all bitterness, passion and anger. No more shouting or insults, no more hateful feelings of any sort. Instead, be kind and tender hearted to one another. anf forgive one another, as God has forgiven you through Christ.

Watch the short video clip that explains how the Trinity works.

Some Christians use images to represent the Holy Trinity.

Talk about them with your talk partner.

How do you think the images symbolise beliefs about the Holy Trinity?

Share your ideas.

Now record your understanding of Christian beliefs about the Holy Trinity along with an image that you think symbolises it.
