🐺 The Mysterious Footprints

It had snowed heavily in the small village of Brook Hollow. When Sam pulled back his curtains that morning, he gasped. The world outside looked completely transformed. Roofs, trees and gardens were covered in a thick blanket of sparkling white.

Eager to explore, Sam pulled on his woolly hat and sturdy boots. The snow felt crisp beneath his feet as he stepped outside. Each step left a clear print behind him.

As he walked towards the park, he noticed a strange line of footprints crossing the path. They were larger than his own and spaced far apart, as if whoever had made them could take enormous strides. A shiver ran down his spine, but his curiosity was stronger than his fear.

The footprints led towards the woods. The trees stood tall and silent, their branches drooping under the weight of snow. Sam hesitated for a moment. The woods could feel eerie in winter, especially when no one else was around.

Taking a deep breath, he followed the trail. Behind a cluster of bushes, he spotted a large, shaggy dog wagging its tail. A nearby sign read: “Missing Husky – answers to Blizzard.”

Sam laughed in relief. The “mysterious creature” was simply a lost dog! He gently approached the friendly animal, feeling proud that he had been brave enough to investigate.

🏴‍☠️ The Treasure Map

After school, Sam found an ancient box in the attic. It was dusty and covered in cobwebs. Inside the box was a map so faded he could hardly read it. There was a large red X marked in the corner.

Sam’s eyes widened with excitement. “This must be a treasure map!” he whispered eagerly.

The map showed a tall oak tree, a winding path and a small bridge over a stream. Sam studied the map carefully. He wanted to make sure he followed the correct route.

The next morning, Sam set off on his adventure. He marched through the park, counting his steps. When he reached the oak tree, he spotted something unusual. A large, flat stone lay beside the trunk.

With a great heave, Sam pushed the stone aside. Underneath, he discovered a small metal tin. Inside were shiny marbles and a note that read, “Well done, explorer!”

LC: To understand what is meant by sacrificial love.

Talk to your partners and discuss what is meant by sacrifice. Think back to our lesson from last week? What did Jesus sacrifice in the wilderness?

Now think back to our topic 'What does it mean to love your neighbour?' What word did we learn that meant sacrificial love when we learnt about Mother Theresa?

romero cross activity 1 .pdf

Task: design your own Romero cross activity, your design should show how:

Romero was a special man, who stood up for poor communities. In El Salvador there was much inequality - a few families were very rich and owned lots of land but most people were poor and earned very little. People became angry at this unfairness. Many people, like Romero, spoke out against what was happening. But the rich were powerful – if people complained they were put in prison or even killed.

Even so, Romero stood alongside his people and continued to speak out against injustice. On 24 March 1980, Romero was killed while saying Mass.

Romero is remembered for his courage, his faith and, above all, his great love for the poor. Romero still inspires people today.

Task 2: Explain your design of your cross with references to Oscar Romero's life and how he showed sacrificial love to his community.

Do your actions match your words?

In Islam, telling the truth is very important. Allah teaches Muslims to be honest and trustworthy. When we tell the truth, people feel safe with us. They know they can trust us.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is a great example. Even before he became a prophet, people called him Muhammad – Al-Ameen, which means “The Trustworthy.” People trusted him because his actions always matched his words.

In the Qur’an, Allah tells believers not to say things they do not do. This teaches Muslims that it’s not enough to just speak good words — we must also act on them.

For example:

  • If we say we are sorry, we should try not to repeat the mistake.

  • If we promise to help, we should really help.

  • If we say we believe in kindness, we should show kindness.

In Islam, this is part of having strong character (akhlaq). Good character means being honest, fair, kind, and keeping promises — even when no one is watching.

So today, let’s remember:

  • Tell the truth.

  • Keep your promises.

  • Let your actions show your faith and your good character.

Because in Islam, our actions are just as important as our words.
