My turn:

Freya loves netball. She plays it every day at school. Then, when she gets home, she plays some more. She can pass, shoot, defend and is fast at running. Freya can charge up and down the court all day long, as quick as a flash. When she plays in a shooting position, she gets lots of goals. When defending, the opposition doesn’t get many goals. All of her teammates and coaches say she is quite incredible and works so hard to be the best player she can be. She loves playing the game. Someday, when Freya grows up, she wants to play for the Silver Ferns and play for as long as she can.

Happy Hamburger Takeaway Restaurant Review Written by Jasmine (nine years old) and Angelo (eight years old).

This takeaway restaurant is down a small lane. There is a large sign on the main road that tells you where to go. Inside, it is bright with lots of posters and paintings up on the wall and looks really great. The menu is displayed above the counter. When we walked in, it was really busy with lots of people standing and a few people eating near the counter. The menu had things you can have with a burger (like hot chips, fries, onion rings, etc.), burgers and milkshakes for dessert. After reading it, we wanted to get most of the food. It all sounded very yummy. It was a hard decision to order. Eventually, we decided on some cheesy chips to share, then a burger each and milkshakes to finish. The cheesy chips were great, but there were too many. We decided to stop eating them because we wouldn't have room for the rest of our food. Next, we had our hamburger. Angelo ordered the vegetarian burger, which uses tofu and lots of spicy sauce. His mouth was on fire! Apart from that, he really liked it. I went for the cheese and bacon burger. It was huge with a soft bun and juicy tomatoes. I also ate the lot. Lastly, we each had a milkshake. I had strawberry and Angelo had chocolate. The milkshakes were topped with whipped cream and sprinkles - all very tasty! We had some great food at the Happy Hamburger. The cost of the meal was £15 and we left very full and happy.

First lines drama: In pairs innovate the conversation between Rumaysa and Cordelia.

"You must spin all the straw into gold in four days!" screamed Cordelia before she jumped on her broom and flew out of the window.

“Asleep,” Cordelia repeated, “the whole day?” Her voice was raising, “For what? Why could you possibly be so tired? Lazy child!” Rumaysa didn’t reply; her hands were trembling as she tried and failed to wrap the straw through the spindle. Cordelia looked around the room, her eyes zeroing in on the books by the bed. “Up reading late, were you?” she sneered. “I don’t mind you having some fun Rumaysa, but not when it interferes with my work! I clothe you and feed you and keep you safe, and all I ask in return is you make gold on time!” Rumaysa didn’t dare speak. Her stomach twisted with nerves and anger. “But no – apparently I am asking for too much!” Cordelia spat. “I’m sorry, Cordelia!” Rumaysa said, trying to keep her tone even.

Focus: Add the suffix -tion e.g. protection, pollution.

A suffix is an ending, added to the end of a word to turn it into another word. It can change the word class. 

Let's read together the following pairs of words and clap the syllables:

Adding the suffix -tion turns verbs into nouns.

-tion is the most common spelling for the sound 'shun'

The suffix -tion is commonly used if the root word ends in t or te.

This is the case for all the above root words.

If words end in t or te, these are dropped before the -tion suffix is added.
