A clause is a group of words that includes a subject and a verb. We use clauses to form sentences or parts of sentences.  e.g.

The           boy           ran.

      subject               verb

Often a clause contains a lot more information such as adverbs and noun phrases e.g.

The beautiful white butterfly fluttered in and out of the colourful flowers.

                        subject                    verb

Each of the sentences below contain two clauses a main clause and a subordinate clause.

Say the sentences aloud with your talk partner.  Identify the main clause.

LC: To describe how and why some Christians might devote their lives to serving God.

What is meant by a sense of vocation?

If you have a vocation, you have a strong feeling that you are especially suited to do a particular job or to fulfill a particular role in life, especially one that involves helping other people.

How might some Christians devote their lives to serving God?

Prayer and Worship

  • Many Christians engage in daily prayer to communicate with God, seek guidance, and express their devotion.
  • Regularly attending church services to worship, learn, and fellowship with other believers is a central part of their devotion.

Reading and Studying the Bible

  • Christians often dedicate time to reading the Bible to understand God's word and apply its teachings to their lives.
  • Participating in or leading Bible study groups to deepen their knowledge and share insights with others.

Living According to Christian Principles

  • Striving to live a life that reflects Christian values, such as honesty, compassion, and humility.
  • Engaging in acts of charity, helping those in need, and participating in community service as expressions of their faith.

Vows and Religious Life

  • Some Christians become priests, pastors, or ministers, dedicating their lives to leading and serving their congregations.
  • Others join religious orders as monks or nuns, living in communities dedicated to prayer, work, and communal living.

Why some Christians might devote their lives to serving God?

Christians believe God created them and loves them deeply. They want to show their love for God by living in a way that pleases Him.

Jesus devoted His life to helping others and obeying God. Christians want to be like Jesus by serving and caring for others.

The Bible teaches Christians to serve God and others. For example, in the Bible, Jesus says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Many Christians believe that by serving God, they can make the world a better place. This might mean helping people in need, teaching, or working in their community.
