Folk Tale: The Sparrow and the Lost Seed
Long ago, in a quiet green forest, there lived a little sparrow named Pip. One sunny morning, Pip found a shiny, golden seed lying near the riverbank.
“This must be special,” Pip chirped. “I will plant it and see what grows!”
Pip carried the seed to the softest patch of soil she could find. Every day, she watered the seed and sang to it. The other forest animals watched curiously.
“You’re wasting your time,” grumbled Badger.
“It’s just a seed,” laughed Squirrel.
But Pip didn’t listen. She believed something wonderful would happen.
Weeks passed and still nothing grew. Pip’s wings drooped. “Maybe they were right,” she sighed.
Just as she was about to give up when a tiny shoot poked through the soil then another and another. Soon, a tall tree with golden leaves stood proudly in the forest.
The animals gasped in amazement. The golden tree dropped seeds that sparkled like stars. Every seed grew into a plant that gave food, shade, or beautiful flowers.
Pip smiled. “Sometimes,” she said, “you just have to believe in what you cannot yet see.”
And from that day on, the forest animals learned to show patience and trust.
R - Where did Pip plant the seed?
I - How do you think Pip felt when the other animals laughed at her?
C - What effect do the golden leaves have on the reader?

🌟 The Tale of the Clever Little Sparrow
Long ago, in a quiet green forest, there lived a clever little sparrow named Pip. Pip was small, fast, and always curious about the world. One morning, Pip heard a loud THUMP deep in the forest.
Pip fluttered her wings. “That didn’t sound good,” she whispered. She flew toward the noise and found a huge wooden crate sitting in the middle of a clearing.
✨ Prediction Pause 1
What do you think is inside the wooden crate? Why?
Pip hopped closer and noticed a big sign on the crate. It said:
“DO NOT OPEN — DANGEROUS!”
Pip tilted her head. “Dangerous? Hmm… but maybe someone needs help!” Pip looked around. No one else was there. Carefully, she pecked at the corner of the crate. Suddenly, the lid slid open with a CREAK.
Inside sat a shivering, frightened baby dragon with shimmering blue scales.
✨ Prediction Pause 2
What do you think Pip will do now that she has found a baby dragon?
The baby dragon sniffled. “I’m lost,” it said. “My name is Ember, and I can’t find my family.”
Pip felt sorry for Ember. “Don’t worry,” she chirped. “I’ll help you!”
But just as the two became friends, the ground began to tremble. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Out from the trees marched the Forest Giant, who had been searching for the crate.
✨ Prediction Pause 3
What do you think the Forest Giant wants? Will he help them, or cause trouble?
The Forest Giant stopped when he saw Pip and Ember.
“Oh! There you are, Ember!” he boomed kindly. “Your mother asked me to bring you home, but you got scared and hid in the crate.”
Ember’s eyes lit up. “You know my mum?”
The Giant nodded gently. “Of course! Come, I’ll take you to her.”
Pip waved goodbye as Ember climbed onto the Giant’s shoulder.
Before the Giant left, he said, “Thank you, little sparrow. You were very brave.”
Pip felt proud. She fluttered home, knowing she had helped a friend in need.
Your turn:
🌟 The Tale of the Moonlit Mango Tree
Long ago, in a warm village by the sea, there stood a mango tree that was unlike any other. Its leaves shimmered silver at night, and people whispered that it held a magical secret.
In the village lived a curious girl named Anya. Every night, she watched the mango tree glow softly in the moonlight. One evening, she noticed something unusual—
a tiny wooden door had appeared in the trunk of the tree!
✨ Prediction Pause 1
What do you think is behind the tiny wooden door? Why?
Anya knelt down and gently pushed the door open. Inside, she found a spiraling staircase leading down into the roots of the tree. She took a deep breath and began to climb.
At the bottom, she stepped into a bright underground chamber. Lanterns shaped like starfish lit the walls, and at the centre stood a mango the size of a watermelon, glowing like the moon.
Suddenly, the mango cracked open, and out stepped a small silver fox with sparkling eyes.
✨ Prediction Pause 2
Who do you think the silver fox is? What might it want?
The fox bowed politely.
“I am Luma, guardian of the Moonlit Mango Tree,” he said.
“Every hundred years, I emerge to choose someone to help protect the magic of our village.”
Anya’s heart thumped. “Why me?” she asked.
Before Luma could answer, the ground rumbled.
A cold wind swept through the chamber.
From the shadows came a cloudy, swirling figure—the Wind Whisperer, a spirit who longed to steal the mango tree’s magic for himself.
✨ Prediction Pause 3
What do you think Anya and Luma will do to stop the Wind Whisperer?
Anya remembered something her grandmother always said:
“Magic grows where courage glows.”
She grabbed Luma’s paw.
Together, they stood in front of the mango’s soft light.
The glow grew brighter and brighter until—
WHOOSH!
A wave of moonlit magic swept through the room, sending the Wind Whisperer drifting harmlessly out of the chamber like a blown-out candle.
When the light faded, Luma smiled.
“That is why I chose you, Anya. Your courage protects the magic of this village.”
Anya felt warm and proud as she followed Luma back up to the surface, where the Moonlit Mango Tree shimmered brighter than ever.
