Tuesday

To make predictions and justify with reasons.

Today, we are going to read our new story, but when we choose a book, it's important to look at all the parts rather than just start reading the text inside.

Reading comes alive when we recognise how the ideas in a text connect to our experiences and beliefs, events happening in the larger world, our understanding of history, and our knowledge of other texts.

TEXT TO TEXT - Is there anything that reminds us of other books we have read, songs we have heard or films we have watched? Are any of the characters familiar? Are there any similarities/differences?

TEXT TO SELF - Can we spot any clues about where the story is set? Have we been to a place like that before? Are there any objects that we are familiar with? Are any of the characters like the people I know?

Now, let’s read our book!

Let’s try these together.

Can you investigate and describe the importance for humans of eating the right amount of different kinds of food?

The word ‘diet’ refers to everything you eat.

Some foods are better for you than others. For some of us, chocolate, crisps, and doughnuts may be our favourite foods. But we can’t eat them all of the time. Although they taste nice, they don’t give you all the stuff you need to live a healthy life.

We need other types of foods to protect us from illness and to help us grow. Vitamins and minerals help our bones, eyes and teeth stay strong and our bodies healthy.

The human body needs a balanced diet to work properly. Good health involves drinking enough water and eating the right amount of foods from the different food groups.

The Eatwell Guide shows how much of what we eat overall should come from each food group to achieve a healthy, balanced diet. You do not need to achieve this balance with every meal, but try to get the balance right over a day or even a week.

You are going to create a healthy lunch using the Eatwell guide, you must include:
• Two portions of vegetables.
• Two portions of carbohydrates.
• One portion of protein.
• One portion of dairy.
