To be able to use place value to compare two or three numbers and determine which number is bigger or smaller. To be able to arrange three numbers in order of size.

In todays lesson we will be comparing numbers. 

Using the number line above which number is between

0 and 20

0 and 10

10 and 20 

How can we count the fruit based on what we have learnt?

Practically compare 2 numbers using Base 10. 

Which is greater? How do you know? 

Get one wrong! Falsely tell them that there are more ones in 27 than in 35, so 27 must be bigger.

Explore the idea that 1 ten is bigger than 9 ones using base 10 materials. Ask them Where should we start our comparing numbers? from the tens or the ones.

 

Understand that the prefix ‘un’ changes the meaning of verbs and adjectives.

 Today we are going to continue learning about the 'un' prefix.

Prefixes are a group of letters that change the meaning of a word when they are added to the start.

 

Below are words, once the ‘un’ prefix is added to the words, can you tell your partner what the new word means?

certain

well

happy

sure

tidy

Adding the ‘un’ prefix to some words doesn’t always work.
 

For example, the word sad would become unsad.

 

Now let’s write sentences using the ‘un’ prefix and joining word ‘because’.

Ask the children to. draw a small square and then draw a triangle on top. Write your name at the bottom.

Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at ways of keeping ourselves and each other safe in familiar environments (like school and home) and unfamiliar environments (like near a road or the canal).

Lets have a look at these different danger scenarios and discuss what we would do in familiar and unfamiliar environment!
