Religious Education - Sikhism

Thursday 24th April 2025

LC: To generate questions to ask a Sikh visitor.

Today we welcome a special visitor to our school. DJ Kash is a Sikh. We need to generate some questions to help deepen our understanding of the Sikh faith.

Sikhism

Can you think of some questions to ask our visitor? Here are some that I have thought of, let's add to these:

How do you show commitment to your faith?

What is the name of the language that the holy book is written in?

Let's create a mind map together to put on our RE learning wall.

LC: To identify adverbs.

What is an Adverb?

An adverb is something that tells you where, why or how something is done.

For example:

Sara crossed the road safely.

Safia’s horse bravely jumped over the  hurdle.

The boy rode his scooter everywhere.

Many adverbs end in –ly but not all of them.

Not all words which end in –ly are adverbs.

Activity

In your books underline the adverb in each sentence.

Adam shouted loudly.

Naomi tried hard.

She threw the ball up.

Lilly smiled kindly.

Liam ran upstairs.

Daniel coloured his picture carefully.

Amy tried hard to finish her homework.

The children planted the seeds yesterday.

LC: Draw inferences around characters thoughts, feelings and actions.

The video clip below is from a film all about Boudicca, the brave warrior queen. Watch and listen.

/i/video/Year_3/Boudicca_Speech.mp4

We are going to watch the clip again. This time you need to write down any interesting words and phrases.

Let's add your interesting words and phrases to our word bank on the learning wall.

What impression of Boudicca do you get from the film clip?

What type of woman was she?

Let's look at some facts about Boudicca.

What did people say about her?

Together we are going to write words and phrases to describe the physical appearance of the Boudicca inside the gingerbread.

On the outside of the gingerbread, we are going write words and phrases that describe what kind of woman she was as what she did!
