Write 3 sentences using prepositons about the Iron Man.
Challenge: Add a simile or adjectives in your sentence.
As tall as Blackpool Tower, the Iron Man stood high above Giles.
LC: To write a short recount indentifying characters thoughts and feelings.
Today you are going to produce a short recount. Let's have a look at the one that I have created. Can you find the following:
- First person pronoun
- Past tense
- Prepositions
- Noun phrases
- Adverbs
- Powerful verbs
As I stood beside the riverbed overlooking the enormous mountains, my heart raced with excitement and fear. Suddenly, a colossal shadow loomed over me; it was the Iron Man! He emerged from behind the towering clouds, his massive figure taking shape against the bright blue sky. He looked as big as a skyscraper, with enormous metal arms and legs that gleamed in the sunlight like polished silver. I felt tiny and helpless, just like a pebble on the ground.
My eyes widened as I watched him step forward, each movement sending a tremor through the earth beneath my feet. The ground shook as he approached, and I gasped, feeling a mix of wonder and anxiety. What would he do? Would he be friendly or fearsome? I thought about the stories I had heard from the villagers, tales of strange beings who could either help or harm.
As the Iron Man moved nearer, I could see the intricate details of his metal body. Rusty bolts and shiny panels glinted as he clanked closer. I held my breath, hoping he would not turn and step on me.
Now it is your turn to write yours, remember to include:
1. What your new character is thinking when he sees the mysterious character.
2. What your new character is feeling when he sees the mysterious character.
3. Written in the first person, ‘I’.
4. Past tense.

LC: To use a dictionary to check the meaning of words that have been read.
Last week we had a look at 3 different book covers. All three book covers had different genres.
Who can remember what a genre is?
What genres did we mention last week, speak to your talk partners and see if they remember?
Our job in Reading today is to find the meaning of words from a dictionary. We will focus on our second book which was:
Why do people use a dictionary?
In what order do words come in a dictionary?
As a quick warm up, can you help me to put these words in alphabetical order?
Octopus, dog, alligator, alien, dinosaur
I will read to you the first few pages of the book:
We will use a dictionary together to try and find the meaning of ‘hurricane’
Let’s take a look at the first letter of our word, it begins with a ‘h’ would I open my dictionary from the first page to try and find the meaning?
Which letter comes before ‘H’?
Which letter comes after ‘H’?
Knowing which letter comes before and after H will allow us to find the word much faster.
Now that you have the dictionary open at where the words begin with ‘H’ what letter do I need to look at next?
Will the letter U come further to the end of the H section or closer to the front?
What is the meaning of Hurricane?
Independent
Using your dictionary can you find the meaning of the following words and write down the word and the meaning in your reading books?
- Rage
- Chaos
- Crate
- Horizon
