Grammar Warm-up

LC: To identify clauses in complex sentences

 

Highlight the main clause and subordinate clause in mark up using different colours. 


When the children pushed the leaves aside, they saw what looked like a green ship.


The children put on their wellington boots before they set off into the woods. 

 

Although the children were disappointed that the ship had disappeared, they still visited the woods every year.

 

The children were taken by surprise by a voice coming from below while they were playing on the ship.

 

After the family had finished their lunch, they went for a walk in the woods.

The force that pulls things to the centre of Earth (and other planets) is called gravity.

Gravity also holds Earth and the other planets in their orbits around the Sun.

The force of gravity also exists on the Moon but it is not as strong as it is on Earth. This is because the Moon is much smaller than our planet.
