Friday

To be able to compare different lengths using centimetres as the unit of measurement.

Let’s learn

Let’s explore

Activity time

To orally tell events in chronological order.

Yesterday we looked at the recount of Tom's journey to the North Pole. We drew a skeleton to plot the events in time order.

Tom's journey

Tom's dad was a famous explorer. He got lost whilst exploring the
North Pole. Tom resolved there and then to rescue him.
First he studied a globe and found the North Pole. Then he bought a
map, packed his bag and set off.
After sailing many weeks, gigantic icebergs appeared on the
horizon and Tom saw many beautiful shapes in the ice.
When he reached the North Pole his boat ran aground on the ice so
Tom used a hot air balloon. But the balloon sailed too high and was
hit by a passing satellite.
Next Tom had a parachute but he landed on a very dangerous cliff.
While he was walking, he met lots of scary animals.
Later he spotted a familiar tent on the horizon. He found his dad.
He took a flare from his bag and signalled for help. Finally they went home.

Look at the recount of Robert Falcon Scott's journey and talk with your partner about what is the same and what is different.

Robert Falcon Scott's journey

Robert Falcon Scott was a famous explorer. He wanted to be the
first person to reach the South Pole. Scott resolved there and then
to explore.
First he studied a globe and found the South Pole. Then he gathered
a team, packed his bag and set off on the Terra Nova.
After sailing many weeks, gigantic icebergs appeared on the
horizon and Scott saw many beautiful shapes in the ice.
When he reached Antarctica his boat ran aground on the ice so
Scott used ponies. But the journey was too tough and the ponies
died.
Next he had dogs but they didn't have enough food so they were
sent back.
While he was walking, he was hit by many blizzards.
Later he spotted a familiar flag on the horizon. He lost the race. He
took his tent from his bag and wrote his diary. Finally he died.

Who is the recount about?

Where did he explore?

Why was he significant?

Let's change the events on the skeleton to help us write an innovated recount.

Can you think about things that people can put into their body or on their skin; how these can affect how people feel?

You can find lots of different things in the bathroom. Some things like medicines need to be kept in a safe place.

Play the game below and see if you can put away all the things that should be in the medicine cabinet.

Today in RE we are going to complete a quizlet about what we have learnt and why Christians say Jesus is the 'light of the world'.
