Grammar

To use the conjunction ‘but’ to join ideas

This week we are going to learn a different way to join two parts of a sentence together. Can you remember one word we have already learned? (and)

We are going to use but in our sentence.

I went to the park. It started raining.

There are two ideas in my sentence, that make sense on their own.

Can we join them together with the word but?

I went to the park but it started raining.

When we add but the two ideas in the sentence oppose each other because this was not expected to happen.
