Sports Premium

The Primary PE and sport premium guidance, outlines 5 key priorities that funding should be used towards. It is not necessary that spending has to meet all the key priorities, you should select the priorities that you aim to use any funding towards.

Although completing this template is not a requirement for schools, schools are required to publish details of how they spend this funding. Schools must also outline what impact this funding has had on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment and how any spending will be sustainable in the future. All funding must be spent by 31st July 2024.

The Department for Education has worked closely with the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and the Youth Sport Trust (YST) to develop this template and encourages schools to use it. This template is an effective way of meeting the reporting requirements of the Primary PE and sport premium.

Review of last years spend and key achievements (2022/2023)

We recommend you start by reflecting on the impact of current provision and reviewing your previous spend.

Key indicator 1: Increased confidence, knowledge, and  skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • Upskill all Teaching staff (Teachers and LSA’s) in Cross Curricular Orienteering to unlock an active learning world where children can practice their skills in P.E and other subject areas.

  • 1c Teachers & 21 HLTA’s/LSA’s received in- person staff training and are now teaching this twice, half-termly in various cross- curricular subjects.
  • Subject Lead embedded Cross Curricular Orienteering into the P.E Curriculum. All children (223) from EYFS – Y6 were taught a c-week block throughout Spring 2 P.E Lessons.
  • ·Sports Coach devised a weekly, whole school timetable for Teachers to plan in their Cross-Curricular Orienteering sessions. Teachers had to deliver at least x1 session per half-term.
  • 20 Cross-Curricular Orienteering Class/Year group sessions have taken place between Spring 1-Summer 2. These have been in Math’s, Geography, Science, English and History.
  • Buying into the Cross-Curricular Orienteering Scheme has had a huge impact on both our staff and children at Stoneyholme. Children love that they get to unlock an active learning world outside of the classroom and are setting personal goals to help improve skills across the curriculum.
  • Stoneyholmes School SENDCo created a SEND Orienteering Intervention that took place daily, Monday – Thursday. This was timetabled in our whole school Orienteering timetable.

Orienteering is now embedded across school and into lunch time and Enrichment program. We have a 3-year subscription and have updated our control cards.

Key indicator 3: The profile of PE and sport is being raised  across the school as a tool for whole school improvement

  • Implement Step Forward 4 SEND Ten Minute Daily Exercise Program to improve gross motor and perceptual difficulty.
  • To resource a SEND Physical, Sensory box.

  • Class Teachers, SENDCo and Sports Coach identified 7 children who were on the SEND register. Everyone carried out an initial assessment by the Sports Coach to determine which intervention categories were needed. The Sports Coach worked with the children in pairs or individually on a four- week program, and continuously monitored and recorded each child’s progress. At the end of the four weeks Sports Coach reassessed children to identify strengths. The impact has been highly successful for these children, each one of them has progressed in various ways within their personal categories.
  • Please see below a summary of which was used in an annual review for Physical, Sensory of strengths for a Y2 boy, who is also diagnosed with Obesity and Dihydropyrimidinase deficiency: Child A’s gross motor skills are developing. He can walk on his tip toes, balances on each foot and hop on each leg in turn. He can throw and catch large objects but struggles with smaller objects. Child A can draw a lazy 8 in the air and on paper. Child A can keep his feet together when jumping and jump various distances and knows to bend his knees when landing. Child A can identify his own body parts with confidence. Child A’s fine motor skills are improving, and his letter formation is developing. Child A generally writes large numbers and letters but there is a clear formation, and they can be recognised by himself and others. Child A can use tweezers to sort small objects.Child A has got better at getting up, down, sitting and crossing his legs.

Sports Coach carried on with intervention through 23/24 academic year. These children can now ride a bike or are learning to ride a bike. This focuses on balance.

Key indicator 4: Broader experience of a range of sports  and activities offered to all pupils

Continue to offer existing Enrichment program to all children, for a x5 week block Monday – Thursday (2:45-3:45pm). Improve the percentage of children attending. Develop categories for each activity. All children access at least x2 Enrichment sessions per half-term.

  • Within our enriched mastery curriculum, all children can develop new skills and take part in experiences that broaden and strengthen their knowledge. The UNCRC states that: Article 31: Every child has the right to take part in a wide range of activities. Article 23: Every child has the right to develop their personality, talents, and abilities to the fullest.
  • All activities are led by professionals in school or at specialist center’s in and around the surrounding area using the most up to date equipment and facilities. The opportunities that are delivered are divided into the following categories: Sport, Health & Wellbeing, The Arts, Technology, Global Citizenship and Engineering. Not only does such an opportunity bring about excellent learning opportunities that can be applied within the school curriculum, but develops our young people with regards to confidence, self-esteem and resourcefulness that are essential skills to be leaders in the 21st Century.
  • Below is the percentage of children who attended Stoneyholmes Enrichment Program in 22/23.
  • Autumn 1 = 71%, Autumn 2 = 55%, Spring 1 = 61%,

Spring 2 = 68 %, Summer 1 = 78%, Summer 2 = 100%

  • In Summer 2 term every child at Stoneyholme attended at least x2 Enrichment sessions.

Continue offering our outstanding Enrichment program, and each child must attend two enrichment sessions per half-term.

  • Stoneyholme identified the need for more children throughout school (KS1 & KS2) to ride a bike safely in and around the community. We would love to create a Bike HUB to help support this whilst enhancing children and parents’ bike, safety and maintenance skills. We will organise and deliver CPD linked with British Cycling (Ride Leader) and offer this to staff and Parent/Guardians in the community. The HUB will be linked with Stoneyholmes Enrichment program and will run for a 5-week block, every half-term for each mixed-year group from years 1- 6.

10x staff trained in Ride Lead qualification through local external company, Go Velo.

Created a Bike Hub to embed into Stoneyholme’s Enrichment programme. All 10 staff delivered a ride led cycle to a group of Y6 children at some point throughout the year. We cycled around the local community, canals and parks. 54 children from Y6 took part in ride leads.

Purchased a trailer to extend the ride leads beyond Stoneyholme Community. This gives opportunities for children to develop cycling skills in local parks and greenways.

Sustainability: - A parent & child led session will also take place every half-term for a year mixed group. We would also love to create a cycle track for the community. This will enable a safe space for learning/progression of cycle skills. Children/families will then be able to take the skills and confidence into the community and wider spaces.

Bike Hub will remain in Enrichment program and will become a compulsory activity to children in Y5-6.
