Counting in 10s

/i/video/EYFS/Maths/Counting_by_2s/ScreenRecording_05-06-2025_12-15-17_1.mp4

Here are different ways 10 is represented

There are 10 fingers on these hands, 10 counters in the ten frame, 10 beads on the string, 10 dots on the domino and 10 pencils in the pack.

Can you think of some other things that come in 10s?

Instead of counting them individually we can count in 10s. 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10

When you add the 10s together you get the answer 40.

You get exactly the same answer if you count on in 10s.

Counting on in 10s is quicker than adding lots of groups of 10 together.

You can also count in 10s using a number line.

This number line starts at 0 and ends at 90.

The numbers go up in 10s.

Here are 3 ladybirds with 10 spots. How many spots are there altogether?

We could count in 1s or make it quicker by counting in 10s.

10 → 20 → 30
