READ THE STORY

Listen to the words in the story. Put your thumbs up when you hear a word that describes why the characters are heroes. Are there any more ‘people powers’ you can think of to make them community heroes?
I want to be a real superhero. The kind that helps support people and makes the world a better place.
Maybe I’ll be a doctor. When someone feels poorly I’ll use my super caring skills to make them all better.
I could be a firefighter. If there’s trouble in town I’ll race to the rescue. When I sound my super siren everyone will know that help is on the way.
Perhaps I’ll be a teacher. My classroom will be full of fun.
It would be amazing to fly an air ambulance. When someone is hurt I’ll be the first on the scene bringing help to wherever it’s needed.
I could be a carer. I can meet amazing people and treat them all with kindness and love and share memories or make new memories together.
Maybe I’ll be a recycling truck driver collecting old things to make into new. I’ll help look after our amazing planet and I’ll help my neighbours too.
What if I were a super scientist. I’ll make amazing discoveries. I’ll even make new medicines to help people who are sick.
Maybe I’ll be a vet and look after poorly puppies and grumpy guinea pigs until they feel better. With gentle care and lots of love I’ll get them back on their paws in no time.
I know I’m small but my super powers of kindness, care and love are big and I’m going to use them to make the world a better place.
What does it mean to be brave?
Do any of our community heroes have to be brave?
Can you think of a time when you had to be brave?
Draw a time when you had to be brave…

Without counting how many cubes are there? How do you know?
What are the parts?
Is there another way to make 6?
Can we think of anymore?
How many cubes are there? How do you know?
What are the parts?
Is there another way to make 7?
How many did I make this time?
How many cubes are there? How do you know?
What are the parts?
Is there another way to make 8?
What have I done here?
How many cubes are there? How do you know?
What are the parts?
Is there another way to make 9?
How many cubes are there? How do you know?
What are the parts?
Is there another way to make 10?
Extension:
What do you notice?
How are they similar? How are they different?
How many cubes did I use? How can we check?
