You need to copy the following transcription using cursive script. You must form your letters clearly and make sure that descenders fall below the line and ascenders rise towards the one above. Letters must sit on the line. You must also separate letters where apostrophes go when writing contractions.
“I can’t believe it’s finally here!” said Mia as she looked out of her bedroom window. The summer fair was starting today, and she’d been waiting for it for weeks. She couldn’t stop smiling as she hurried downstairs. “Don’t forget your list,” Mum reminded her. Mia nodded. She’d already checked it twice, but she didn’t want to leave anything behind. Outside, the village square was beginning to fill with people. Some were setting up stalls, while others were carrying boxes and decorations. “We won’t be ready if we don’t work together,” called Mr Patel. Mia grabbed a bundle of banners and ran to help. She knew it’d be a busy day, but she was excited to get started.

Story Starter: The Locked Gate

The wind whispered through the trees as Maya followed the narrow path deeper into the woods. She had taken this route dozens of times before, yet tonight everything felt different. The air seemed colder, and the shadows stretched further across the ground.
Suddenly, she stopped.
Ahead of her stood an old iron gate she had never seen before.
Its black bars were twisted with rust, and a thick chain hung loosely across the entrance. Beyond the gate, a winding path disappeared into the darkness. A faded wooden sign swung gently in the breeze, creaking as it moved.
Maya glanced over her shoulder. The path behind her was empty.
Then she heard it.
Clink.
The sound came from the other side of the gate.
She held her breath and listened.
Clink. Clink.
Something was moving in the darkness.
Slowly, Maya stepped closer...
Challenge for Your Writing (one paragraph)
Try to build suspense by using:
- Short sentences.
- Powerful verbs (crept, lurked, shuffled, trembled).
- Descriptive details about sounds and shadows.
- A cliffhanger ending.
