When Spring Arrives

Winter did not leave all at once. At first, it simply loosened its grip. The frost that had once coated the rooftops each morning began to disappear, and the pale sun lingered a little longer in the afternoon sky.

In the park, the trees stood patiently, their branches no longer bare but tipped with tight green buds. Beneath them, clusters of daffodils pushed bravely through the soil, their yellow heads nodding as if sharing a secret. The air, once sharp and biting, softened into something gentler — cool, but full of promise.

Amira noticed the changes on her walk to school. Birds she hadn’t heard for months now filled the morning with song. A blackbird perched on the fence, its bright eyes alert, as though announcing the new season’s arrival.

Even the people seemed different. Heavy coats were unbuttoned, scarves loosened. Laughter drifted across the playground like a light breeze. It was as if the whole town had taken a deep breath after holding it through the long winter.

Spring had arrived quietly, but everywhere Amira looked, life was beginning again.

R - Who noticed the changes on the way to school?

I - How do we know the mood of the town has changed?

C - What does the word “clusters” tell you about how the daffodils are growing?
