Wonder

The playground was almost empty when Leo finally stepped outside. A thin layer of frost covered the grass, crunching softly beneath his shoes. He zipped his coat right up to his chin and glanced at the climbing frame, where laughter usually echoed. Today, it stood silent.

Leo reached into his pocket and felt the smooth stone his grandfather had given him that morning. For courage, he’d said with a wink. Leo took a deep breath and walked towards the school doors, the cold air stinging his cheeks but making him feel strangely braver.
