The Mysterious Island
Last summer, Sam and his sister Mia went on holiday with their grandparents. One afternoon, they decided to explore a small island near the beach. At low tide, a narrow strip of sand connected the island to the shore.
As they walked across, Sam noticed tiny crabs scuttling into holes. Mia found a smooth, shiny shell that sparkled in the sunlight. When they reached the island, they discovered an old wooden box hidden behind some rocks. It was locked.
“We should tell Grandpa,” Mia said, feeling both excited and nervous.
Just then, they heard the distant sound of the waves getting louder. The tide was coming back in.
R- Where was the wooden box hidden?
I- Why is the rising tide important to the story?
C- The text says the crabs were “scuttling.” What does this word suggest about how they were moving?

The Secret in the Attic
On a rainy Saturday morning, Aisha was bored. The wind rattled the windows, and the sky was as grey as smoke. With nothing else to do, she decided to explore her grandmother’s attic.
The attic was dusty and dim. Old suitcases were stacked in one corner, and a tall mirror leaned against the wall. As Aisha carefully stepped over a creaky floorboard, she noticed a small leather notebook hidden inside a box of photographs.
Curious, she opened it. Inside were sketches of birds, trees, and maps of places she had never seen before. On the very last page, there was a message written in neat blue ink: “For the next explorer in our family.”
Aisha’s heart thumped. She wondered what adventures were waiting for her.
R- What was the weather like at the beginning of the story?
I- Why do you think Aisha decided to explore the attic?
C- How does the sentence “Aisha’s heart thumped” add to the mood of the story?
