LC: Explain the meaning of words within the context of the text.
Let's read Chapter 3 again.



Tell me about Chapter 3. Can we summarise the events of the chapter orally?
When we meet words that are new to us in a text, what can we do to help us understand what they mean?
As you read Chapter 4 of our story, think about what strategies you can use to help you understand what you are reading.



Look at p27. We are going to find a word that means the same as ‘a copy’ What word class is the word 'copy' if we say 'a copy?
Do we know the meaning of the word ‘copy’? Where in the text is something copied? SO which word is it?
Now use the strategies we have learned to explain the meaning of words in this chapter.
P28 – Which words/phrases give us the impression that Ivan was made very welcome at Tsar Alfron’s palace?
P28 Find a word that means the same as refused.
P28 Find a word that tells us that Ivan left the palace quickly.
P29 Which words/phrases tell is that the wolf is faster than the horse with the golden mane?
