Tuesday
To give opinions and support with reasons.
At Stoneyholme Primary School, we promote our British Values, which help us to be good citizens.
Today we are going to focus on Democracy and Individual Liberty.
Democracy- people have a say on what happens through voting.
Individual Liberty- having the freedom to make our own choices and do what we want, within reason.
This supports or learning on Article 12: Every child has the right to share their opinions and have their views taken seriously.
We are going to begin by reading one of our tales. There are many to choose from, so we are going to vote for which ones we read. To make it fair, we will read the ones voted for by the majority (the greater number) of people.
Think about which character you would or would not like to meet and why. Share your ideas with your partner.
Remember to give reasons for your choice,. Here are some examples:
I would like to meet Jack because he is brave when he climbs up the beanstalk, clever when he hides from the giant and fast when he runs away.
I would not like to meet the big, bad wolf because he is cunning when he tries to trick the pigs, scary when he blows their house down and angry when he doesn't get to eat the 3 Little Pigs.
To be able to add a 2-digit number and ones without renaming.
Let's try the guided practice together.

What changes occur to seeds when we plant them, how will we know?

/i/J_Fernandes/Science/how_do_seeds_grow.mp4
What happens when you plant seeds?
- The seed absorbs water and starts to grow.
- A tiny root comes out first, going down into the soil.
- Then a shoot grows upward toward the light.
- Leaves appear, and the plant begins to make its own food .
What happens when you plant bulbs?
- Bulbs (like onions or tulips) already have a small plant inside them.
- When planted, they use stored food to start growing.
- Roots grow downward, and shoots grow upward.
- They often grow faster than seeds because they already have energy stored
How can we investigate what actually happens to a bulb or a seed when it starts to grow? How can we observe that?
You will need
- a plastic bag or tub
- a seed
- cotton wool
- water
Method
1. Wet your cotton wool.
2. Place the cotton wool in your bag or tub.
3. Sit a seed on top of the cotton wool.
4. Seal your bag, write your name on and stick it to the window.
