Class Charter
In class, we have been thinking about our rights. We have started the year by thinking about Article 17, 'Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously'.
Children have shared their ideas about what responsibilities they have as Right Holders to ensure everybody can enjoy their rights. We have also thought about what Duty Bearers’ (adults) responsibilities are.
We all agreed that we will uphold our responsibilities on our Class Charter.
British Values
As British citizens, we know the difference between right and wrong and we respect people's different opinions and choices. These are known as British Values.
In school, we promote all of the British Values:
- The Rule of Law
- Democracy
- Individual Liberty
- Mutual Respect and Tolerance
We look at a different value each week in Collective Worship Time and we share our opinions and listen to others.
Homework
All children in year 4 are expected to complete their homework every night. This includes:
- Reading in a quiet place for 20 minutes every day
- Practising times tables and related division facts - all children know the ones that they need to practise
- Spelling by logging into their Spelling Frame account
Class Timetable
Autumn 1
As writers, we will be writing a magazine article about Scotland's Loch Ness Monster and Ireland's Rough Lee Monster.
As Mathematicians, we will focus on place value, we will learn to count in multiples of 25, 100 and 1000 in order to count larger numbers comprehensively. We will learn about the relative size of numbers and complete number sequences within 10 000. We will learn about place value to 4 digits and we will link numbers in numerals and in words. We will compare numbers using language such as 'greater', 'smaller', 'less' and 'more', using the mathematical symbols >, < and =. We will use our knowledge of number and place value to help complete number patterns. We will also learn about rounding numbers to the nearest 1000, 100 and 10. We will apply this knowledge to approximate, total and find the difference.
We have been practicing counting up in 25’s.

As Scientists, we will be learning about animals and humans, focusing on their teeth and their functions. We will be naming and describing the functions of the human digestive system and using food chains to identify producers, predators and prey.
We had a look at our teeth and identified the different teeth we still have or have lost as our adult teeth have now started to grow.

As Historians, we will be learning about how the Roman Empire expanded and about its significant achievements.
We had a go at re-enacting some Roman army battle formations. Read about them below.
4K Autumn 1 history
As Citizens, we will be learning about our mental health, treating others politely and what it means to be treated politely. We will reflect on our similarities and differences with others. We will be looking at the importance of privacy with friends and family both offline and online.

Autumn 2
As Writers, we will be exploring the ingredients of a fairytale and cooking up our very own story inspired by the story 'Rumaysa a Fairytale'.
i/video/4K_Fathima/IMG_0084.mov
We enjoyed comparing Disney’s Elsa’s life to Rumaysa’s and it inspired us to write some lyrics that she might sing when she was trapped in Cordelia’s tower.
As Mathematicians, we will learn how to multiply and divide by 6, 7, 9, 11 and 12. We will begin to understand new mathematical vocabulary such as 'quotient' in relation to division. We will learn how to calculate multiplication equations using the multiplication facts that we know. We will understand the difference between sharing and grouping and the commutative law in multiplication. We will also solve word problems involving multiplication and division.
We participated in the England Rocks competition and we were in the top ten in the country.

As Scientists, we will be learning about the three states of matter. We will be observing different materials changing states when heated or cooled. We will then apply our Science learning to explain the parts played by evaporation and condensation in the water cycle.
As Theologians, we will be looking at the the morals behind the main parables that Jesus told and how Christians in the 21st century apply these to their everyday lives.
As Citizens, we will be learning and reflecting on keeping safe during Bonfire night, in the dark and during icy weather. We will know how to recognise peer pressure and develop strategies to manage this. We will reflect on positive family relationships and know when and how to seek support when feeling lonely or excluded.
We have been reflecting on ways we can stay safe in different situations. Have a look at some of our inserts from our PSHCE floor books.
