Autumn 1

In English, we are going to be reading instructions, identifying their key features and using these features to write our own instructions.

We will also be reading lots of tradition tales and tales with a twist. We will explore the language used and identify similarities and differences between them. We will then use this information to help us write a story of our own

In Maths, we will be learning to count numbers up to 100 using concrete objects.

We will learn that each digit in a number has its own value and to be able to compare numbers using place-value knowledge.

As Scientists, we will learn about the basic stages in a life cycle for animals, including humans and how they have offspring that grow into adults.

We will learn that why exercise, a balanced diet and good hygiene are important and what animals need to survive.

2F Autumn 1 Science

In Geography we will be looking for the Equator, North and South Poles on a map.

We will also identify the location of hot/cold areas of the world in relation to Equator and North and South Poles.

2F Autumn 1 Geography

In Art we will learn about the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to our own work. We will make 3D forms from malleable and recycled materials.

2F Art Autumn 1

In R.E we will be answering the questions 'How do we respond to things that really matter?' and 'What do special stories teach worshipers and others?'

We will be discussing how we look after natural resources and what we can do as responsible citizens to take care of the world. We will also look at the story of Creation and how Christians celebrate Harvest Festival.

We will learn about why we have rules to keep us safe. We will also learn about friendships, how to resolve arguments and ask for help if we are unhappy with friends. We will be identifying similarities and differences between families. We will learn about the common responsibilities people have in every family. We will learn how to share our worries if someone in our family makes us feel upset.

In Computing, we will link our work with PSHCE when we learn about protecting ourselves from harm and learning how to get out of situations that make us feel uncomfortable, including when we are online.

As a Rights Respecting School, we will be looking at Article 19: Every child has the right to be protected from harm.

Autumn 2

We will be reading stories around the theme ‘explorers’. We will be using Talk for Writing to learn the story 'The Great Explorer' so we can write our own version.

We will identify our favourite words and phrases from the story and identify time adverbial openers including first, then and next which help us sequence events in order.

As Historians, we will be learning about the key events in the life of Sir Robert Falcon Scott and comparing them to events in the life of Tim Peake.

We will make comparisons between our own lives and those of others in the past by asking and answering questions.

Our lives are similar because he had brothers and sisters and

so do I.

Our lives are different because he died and I did not.

Our lives are similar because we were both born in England.
Our lives are different because he went to the South Pole and I didn’t.

As Artists, we will name, match and draw lines and marks from our observations. We will then investigate inventing our own lines and marks. We will observe and draw shapes investigating tone by drawing light and dark lines, patterns and shapes.
