LC:  Explain the meaning of words within the context of the text.

Tell me about Chapter 3. Can we summarise the events of the chapter orally?

When we meet words that are new to us in a text, what can we do to help us understand what they mean?

As you read Chapter 4 of our story, think about what strategies you can use to help you understand what you are reading.

Look at p27. We are going to find a word that means the same as ‘a copy’ What word class is the word 'copy' if we say 'a copy?

Do we know the meaning of the word ‘copy’? Where in the text is something copied? SO which word is it?

Now use the strategies we have learned to explain the meaning of words in this chapter.

P28 – Which words/phrases give us the impression that Ivan was made very welcome at Tsar Alfron’s palace?

P28 Find a word that means the same as refused.

P28 Find a word that tells us that Ivan left the palace quickly.

P29 Which words/phrases tell is that the wolf is faster than the horse with the golden mane?

Use a dictionary to check the spelling of words

Can you remember how to use a dictionary?

The words below have all been spelled incorrectly. Use a dictionary to find the correct spelling of each word and write it down.

How quickly can you find and write all ten words? Use the timer on your iPad and write the total time taken next to the date.

In Christianity, Saints are people they believe to be in heaven, who lived heroically virtuous lives, offered their life for others, or were martyred for the faith, and who are worthy of imitation.

A patron saint is a saint who has been named a special patron (guardian, protector, supporter) for a place, a profession, a particular activity, etc.

The Patron Saint of Ireland is Saint Patrick, and he is remembered by Irish people all around the world on 17th March every year. Today many people of Irish descent will be celebrating Saint Patrick's Day. Let's learn a little more about it:

Reflection:

Celebrating special occasions brings people together as families or wider groups of friends and people who have something in common. Let's take time to say thank you to the people we share these things with for helping us to remember what is important to us and making special memories.
