LC: Locate and describe the some physical and human features of Lancashire.
How would we describe the position of Lancashire in England using compass points?

Rivers
The River Brun starts in Hurstwood and runs through Burnley. You can see it in Thompson Park.
Burnley gets its name from this river 'Brun Lea'. Brun means brown and Lea is a woodland clearing, so Burnley is a clearing next to the brown river.
The river Calder runs through Towneley Park in Burnley.
Both of these rivers meet in Burnley and flow onwards until they meet the River Ribble near Preston. It then flows into the sea.
Read some more information about land use, economic activity, landscapes, landmarks and some fun facts about the wonderful county in which we live. Make some notes in your Geography book as a reminder.
