Determiners
LC: To know what is the function of a determiner
To identify determiners
To collect a range of determiners
• Determiners include many of the most frequent English words, e.g. the, a, my, this.
• Determiners are used with nouns (this book, my best friend, a new car) and they limit (i.e. determine) the reference of the noun in some way.
• Determiners include: - articles: a/an, the - demonstratives: this/that, these/those - possessives: my/your/his/her/its/our/their - quantifiers: some, any, no, many, much, few, little, both, all, either, each, every, enough.
Determiners determine a noun - they work within a sentence to pin down a noun.
examples:
an apple,
the pencil,
this chair,
these children,
some tigers,
many people.
Determiner Detectives
Copy and underline the determiners:
The Arctic is a place where polar bears reside. These magnificent creatures are under threat due to many changes in the world’s climate. This issue needs to be brought to the attention of some children in KS2.

LC: To understand what is meant by sacrificial love.
Talk to your partners and discuss what is meant by sacrifice. Think back to our lesson from last week? What did Jesus sacrifice in the wilderness?
Now think back to our topic 'What does it mean to love your neighbour?' What word did we learn that meant sacrificial love when we learnt about Mother Theresa?
A
Talk to your partner and discuss how Oscar Romero showed sacrificial love?
romero canonisation collective worship 1.pdf
Task: design your own Romero cross activity, your design should show how:
Romero was a special man, who stood up for poor communities. In El Salvador there was much inequality - a few families were very rich and owned lots of land but most people were poor and earned very little. People became angry at this unfairness. Many people, like Romero, spoke out against what was happening. But the rich were powerful – if people complained they were put in prison or even killed.
Even so, Romero stood alongside his people and continued to speak out against injustice. On 24 March 1980, Romero was killed while saying Mass.
Romero is remembered for his courage, his faith and, above all, his great love for the poor. Romero still inspires people today.
Task 2: Explain your design of your cross with references to Oscar Romero's life and how he showed sacrificial love to his community.
Memories
LC: To think about the value of special memories.
Have you got any favourite memories that you would like to share with everyone?
The memories may be happy/scary/sad/exciting, e.g. holidays, days out, presents received, people they have met.
I want you want you to think of special memories, things you have remembered for a long time or like to think about often.
It is good to remember things that have happened and that as you get older memories become more and more special.
I'm going to share one or two special memories I have from when I was a child.
Sometimes we forget things that have happened in the past and then something jogs our memories and reminds us of it.
Have you ever visited somewhere and brought a souvenir back with you. Sometimes it is good to have an object that reminds us of a particular place or happy event.
Christians do something like this to help them remember a special time in the life of Jesus. When Jesus knew that it wouldn’t be long before his death he asked them to do something that would remind them of him.
Christians today still break bread and drink wine to remind themselves of Jesus and to share a special meal with each other.
Time for reflection
Reflection
Think for a moment about a special memory you have. Think about the people involved in that memory.
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for people who have given me special memories,
and for places I have been and things that I have seen
that make me happy when I think of them.
Please help me to do things for other people
that make them smile when they remember what I have done.
