Why do you need punctuation?
Punctuation is very important in our writing. Without it, writing would just be a mess of letters and words and we wouldn’t be able to breathe when reading!
Full stops are needed at the end of most sentences. They tell the reader to pause, take a breath and move onto the next sentence. They show us how information is broken up.
But sentences don’t always end in full stops. They could end in a question mark or an exclamation mark.
Exclamation mark:
An exclamation mark is used to show surprise, force, excitement or anger.
It helps make the meaning of the sentence clear for the reader and helps them to understand what characters are feeling.

Once upon a time in the land of Splinterfell there lived a wicked witch who had been wronged by a desperate family. As revenge, she appeared one dark wintery night at the door of their cottage.
"Who is it?" Samar called. "It is I," came a low voice, "the one from whom you have been stealing." Samar froze. The hairs on his body stood up. The door swung open with a loud thud to reveal a figure cloaked in black. All they could see of her pale face were dark red lips and a pointy chin. As the figure stepped in, a gust of icy wind filled the room and blew the hood of her cloak back, exposing more of her evil face. Samar gasped and his eyes widened in horror. It was the Witch!
