Friday 27th June 2025.

LC: To discuss and record ideas for planning.

Yesterday, we completed the plans for our first four verses.

Today, we will do the remainder of the plan.

We will first begin with Verse 5. Let's take a look back at what's happening in the poem for Verse 5 and take some ideas:

The spider turned him round about, and went into his den,
For well he knew the silly fly would soon be back again:
So he wove a subtle web, in a little corner sly,
And set his table ready to dine upon the fly.
Then he came out to his door again, and merrily did sing,
"Come hither, hither, pretty fly, with the pearl and silver wing:
Your robes are green and purple; there's a crest upon your head;
Your eyes are like the diamond bright, but mine are dull as lead.

Take a look at the words highlighted in pink. You might want to change these words.

Write down your new ideas into your plan in the first box only.

Verse 6:

Alas, alas! How very soon this silly little fly,
Hearing his wily flattering words, came slowly flitting by.
With buzzing wings she hung aloft, then near and nearer drew,
Thinking only of her crested head - POOR FOOLISH THING! At last,
Up jumped the cunning spider, and fiercely held her fast.
He dragged her up his winding stair, into his dismal den,
Within his little parlour; but she ne'er came out again.

Select the words that you would like to change and add them in to the next box on your planning sheet.

Verse 7:

And now, dear little children, who may this story read,
To idle, silly, flattering words, I pray you ne'er give heed;
Unto an evil counsellor close heart, and ear, and eye,
And take a lesson from this tale of the Spider and the Fly.

Select the words that you would like to change and add them to your final box.

LC: To design and conduct a fair investigation, to explore the requirements of plants for life and growth.

Before we start today's learning, we need to measure our bean plants and write in our Bean Diaries.

1. Height

2. Description

3. Draw what you can see

Talk Partners

What would happen if a plant had no light?

What would happen if a plant had no leaves?

What would happen if a plant had no water?

What would happen if a plant had no nutrients?

What would happen if a plant had no roots?

Carrying out a fair test

A fair test is a controlled investigation that compares two things. In order for a test to be fair or well controlled, we have to make sure that only one thing (this is called a variable) is changed and everything else is kept the same.

A variable is anything that can affect the results we are observing or measuring.

In our investigation, we will use two bean plants that are the same age. We will change one variable (something in the plant’s environment) for one plant but not the other. Then we will treat both of our plants exactly the same and observe what happens.

By only changing one thing on one of plants, we can see if that one thing makes a difference to how the plant grows by comparing it with the plant that we have not changed.

LC: To explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants.

Talk Partners

Discuss with your talk partner the pollination process.
