What does it mean to be a CITIZEN?

 Being a citizen means that

  • You live in your country

  • You follow the rules (laws)

  • You help make your country a good place to live

Let's look at our special book again.

In Australia we meet a boy called Joe, who is an Aboriginal Australian.

Aboriginal people are the First Australians—they have lived in Australia for tens of thousands of years.
Today, they are citizens just like everyone else. That means they go to school, work, vote, and help in their communities.

Some Aboriginal people live in cities like Sydney or Melbourne.
Others live in remote areas or small towns called communities, often close to the land they love.

One of the things we would see if we visited Australia is Aboriginal dot art is a special kind of painting made by Aboriginal people in Australia.
It’s made using lots of tiny dots to create patterns, animals, and stories.

  • Aboriginal artists often use sticks, brushes, or fingers to paint dots.

  • They use natural colours like brown, red, yellow, white, and black—just like the land.

  • The dots form pictures or symbols that tell Dreaming stories (special stories about how the world was made).

You are going to create your own Aboriginal dot painting. We are going to create a fish (you'll find out why next week!)

Barter Trade Clipart

 Is TRADE necessary?

Trade means swapping or buying things from others because we can't make or grow everything ourselves.

Once upon a time, there was a girl called Amina who lived in a warm country, called Australia. She had lots of wheat!
Far away, in a cold country, there was a boy called Shakil. He had a woolly jumper from his family's sheep.

One day, Amina wanted a jumper because she was visiting the mountains.
Shakil wanted wheat because he wanted to make a pizza!

So they made a trade: Amina gave wheat, and Shakil gave a jumper.
Now they were both happy!

🌟 That’s trade! They swapped things because they had different things and needed something else.

We trade to get things we don’t have or can’t make ourselves. Trade helps people in different places share what they have.

Australia is a big country with lots of things to sell—like wool, meat, grapes and wheat.

But it also buys things it doesn’t make—like toys, clothes, and bananas.

Draw the things that Australia trades with the rest of the world.

Then write a sentence to explain what TRADE means to you.
