Hindus will be celebrating a festival called Diwali this week. It is based on the story of Rama and Sita. We will learn more about the festival later, today let's listen to the story.

The word Diwali means 'rows of lighted lamps' and on this day people who follow Hindu religion celebrate the story of Rama & Sita & the victory of good over evil.

This celebration falls on a different day each year and it is decided on the moon, this year it will take place on Friday.

Why did the people in the town light the diwa lamps?
For many people this festival also honours Lakshimi: Goddess of wealth. As well as lighting Diwa lamps, Families may also make a rangoli to welcome lakhshimi and to ward off any negative energy or vibes from entering the house. These are often made with flowers, paints or powders.
